After Nightfall
From behind silvered clouds moon peeks an eye
Whippoorwill warbles evensong's sweet lullaby
Upon the tranquil waters drifts a drowsy haze
That twilight has it's way of carrying away in
dream
New-sprung stars twinkle welcome to this world

One by one they jewel the sky
Over yonder meadow where stir the deer
Silhouetted against full moon's watchful glow
Marsh creatures commence in the languishing
light
From the chaparral to tenor the song of a
secret choir
None other reason, save, for to uplift the
heart
Well-wisher's song on the night breeze drifts

For many a wayfarer have wandered
A thousand miles into the depths of night
In need of a blessing in their darkest hour
Where the night jasmine steals away on the
breeze
And in gentle flight a blessing takes wing
For it is the destiny of a Godsend find it's
way
Beyond a flight of fancy to where dreams are
made

And where better to feel so tender a touch
Than in the peaceable stillness where the
thicket is dark
For sometimes flight must perish from even the
swift
Who for awhile after nightfall are summoned to
rest
And when found themselves surrounded by the
stillness of night
Discover sweeter are the blessings in the
midnight hour.
