The Lesson

The day was warm and sunny bright
As with my child I strolled,
Through the woods and down the path
He jumped and played and rolled.

"Stay on the path!" I scolded now
As he darted through the trees,
"Careful now! Slow down your pace,
You'll skin up both your knees!"

"Stay on the path!"  I yelled once more
As a turtle he did find, 
He prodded it and laughed with glee
Oh! Why can't that child mind?

"Stay on the path!" I warned once more
"Or else you'll feel my wrath!"
This time he stopped and looked at me,
"Hey Daddy....what's a path?"
