The angels are assembled,
They’ve been busy here today,
You can hear them softly whisper,
“Peter Jennings’ on his way.”

They’re waiting for, “World News Tonight,”
Just what will Peter say?
What will his lead-in story be
From where he is today?

The cameras are all focused,
The angels cannot wait,
“Good evening, we begin tonight,
With news from Heaven’s gate.

Let’s take, “A closer look,” tonight,
At Peter’s lifetime love,
And how his mark on history,
Is now recorded up above.

And as we take a closer look,
At Peter’s mark on time,
We’ll see how his reporting
Has touched your heart and mine.

He took this job called, “Anchor,”
And kicked it up a notch,
Millions switched to ABC,
So Peter they could watch.

This man of stature, grace and charm,
Broke stories every night,
Brought life to news for all of us,
Reporting boldly what was right.

World leaders, oh yes, kings and queens,
He knew them all by name.
Yet those from every walk of life,
He treated just the same.

But Peter, now the King of Kings,
Has called for you to come,
He set this up a while ago,
He wants some, “One-on-one.”

“I know you loved, “World News Tonight,”
Down there with ABC,
But Peter that will pale indeed,
To working here with me.”

“You see, I bring the very best
To anchor Heaven’s News,
Where there’s no crime or terror,
No place for biased views.”

“Your lead-in stories now will change,
No green room down the hall,
There’ll be no feed into your ear,
The angels tell you all.”

“For I am your producer,
Yes, I will set your pace,
All your deadlines are now over,
Only peace reigns in this place.”

“I’m Peter Jennings. Good Night.”
