Winter
Snow
Last
night the ground was frozen
Tree branches shivering and cold
Dark clouds floating across the sky
A forecast of snow we're told.
It
comes to us so quietly
Drifting ever so slowly down
Swirling and blowing in the wind
A blanket of white covers the town.
To
awaken to this beauty
Is such a wonderful treat
I pull on a coat, hat and gloves
And warm boots upon my feet.
I
shovel a path to the street
And survey this fairy tale land
All is white wherever I look
An awesome sight from where I stand.
I
make a tiny snowball
I don't hear a single sound
I work quietly and quickly
As I roll it round and round.
A
tiny redbird watches me
He's hoping for some feed
So I'll stop long enough to fill a tray
With a heap of sunflower seed.
Now
back to my creation
I pat the snow in place
I gather stones for a smile
And place them upon his face.
A
hat for his head and scarf for his neck
I'll finish him off with eyes and nose
Now into the house I hurry
To warm my frozen toes.
From
my window I look at him
I'm pleased with what I see
My smiling happy snowman
Sitting next to an evergreen tree.
But
wait...I think he's lonely
Now there's a bit more work for me
I bundle up and head back out
To make a snowman family of three.
